Since\u00a02000 Mapstation has been the moniker for the solo work of TAL Label\u00a0founder\u00a0Stefan Schneider. Schneider has won international acclaim as\u00a0a founding member of\u00a0KREIDLER and to rococo rot as well as through\u00a0unique collaborational works with\u00a0artists such as Joachim Roedelius\u00a0(Cluster\/Harmonia), Bill Wells, Katharina Grosse,\u00a0Dieter Moebius\u00a0(Cluster\/Harmonia) Sofia Jernberg or Jochen Irmler (Faust). There\u00a0has not been a new mapstation release since 2009’s THE AFRICA CHAMBER\u00a0which had former FELA KUTI member NICHOLAS ADDO-NETTEY on percussion.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0new album PRESENT UNMETRICS, is not entirely a stand-alone creation\u00a0either. There\u00a0are guest appearances by THOMAS KLEIN (KREIDLER) on percussion,\u00a0MICHAEL\u00a0ACHER (THE NOTWIST) on Sousaphone and an outstanding vocal\u00a0contribution from\u00a0japanese singer HACO, all deeply woven into the\u00a0digital topographics of the music.<\/p>\n

PRESENT\u00a0UNMETRICS offers a collection of radically subtle music. The guiding\u00a0principle of the album was to construct direct and nuanced tracks\u00a0which embody a\u00a0sense of open-ended incompleteness and heterogenous\u00a0dynamics.<\/p>\n

Out\u00a0of sync bass arpeggios, infused with uneven rythms, fractured synth\u00a0stabs and\u00a0intimate melodies, frequently created here with a\u00a0Schlumberg sine wave generator,\u00a0are\u00a0continuously\u00a0engage with experimentation,\u00a0both on sound and structure.<\/p>\n

Expertly\u00a0pieced-together and\u00a0produced\u00a0in timeless fashio, PRESENT UNMETRICS\u00a0displays\u00a0all the coherence and artistic authority of an album\u00a0on\u00a0a constant quest\u00a0so\u00a0vital to\u00a0the music of\u00a0mapstation. An album that couldn’t have been made by any\u00a0other than\u00a0mapstation.<\/p>\n
